Planning and Development Control

Planning control starts with Planning Law and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Development is also driven by a set of Planning Policy Guidelines. Refer to www.gov.uk/planning

For most construction and development the Local Planning Authority is North Hertfordshire District Council. Refer to www.north-herts.gov.uk/planning

For minerals, waste and schools the Local Planning Authority is Hertfordshire County Council. Refer to HCC Planning

The Parish Council is a statutory consultee on most planning applications within the parish. Some applications, for example where the decision is a matter of fact in law, such as an application for a Certificate of Lawful development, the parish council is not consulted. You can view applications relevant to Codicote here.

CPC Planning Committee

Codicote Parrish Council delegates most decisions on planning responses to the Planning Committee, which meets, as required to consider applications. Where there are few or simple applications, these may be dealt with in a full council meeting.

Local Plan

North Herts District Council is preparing a district Local Plan which will, among other things, determine where development takes place over the next ten years.

Neighbourhood Plan

Codicote Parish Council is developing a Neighbourhood Plan which will supplement the Local Plan.
